Becoming a Home Care Aide (HCA) in California involves meeting state requirements designed to protect both clients and caregivers. All HCAs must register with the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and complete required screenings and training before providing care.

1. Required Training

4. State Registration

  • Complete and sign Form SOC 341A, acknowledging your role as a mandated reporter for elder and dependent adult abuse.

HCAs must be employed by a licensed Home Care Organization (HCO) . The HCO assists with registration, compliance, and ongoing employment requirements.
